Speaker: Bill Acito, Ham Radio Operator (Ham Call Sign: W1PA)
December 13, 2025
5:00 – 5:45 pm
Workin’ The Birds
Bill Acito merged a lifelong love of amateur (HAM) radio with astronomy and all things space. He will give an overview of Ham Radio as a hobby, amateur satellites, and how a small portion of the ham radio community interacts with satellites, the ISS, and each other on a daily basis, and how these activities can be utilized for STEM education.
Bill Acito (Ham Call Sign: W1PA) has been an amateur radio operator since the 1970s, when he was 15. Raised in the Finger Lakes of New York State, he relocated to Central Mass after college to work for Digital Equipment Corporation. For 45 years he has explored many different aspects of the ham radio hobby, but for the past 25 years he has merged his love of communications with his love of space into a common activity. Bill currently works in the Electronic Design Automation industry and has two daughters in college.
